Cooling Centers In El Paso – Some Are Cool, Some Are Not Cool
The triple digit temperatures have arrived for Summer, 2026 and the city of El Paos is opening cooling centers all over town. They aren't the only places to cool off though ...
As the temp rises, many people can't keep their homes cool enough so the city has a number of cooling stations open around town. There are other options available too but some of them may not be super "cool" about peeps just hanging out in them.
I have to thank the Buzz Adams Morning Show for this idea. They were talking about the city cooling stations and Buzz mentioned a couple of other, off the wall, places to cool down.
El Paso Cooling Stations
Let's start with the legit cooling stations operated by the city of El Paso. Hours are Mon - Sat 9am - 8pm, Sun 11 a.m. - 8pm.
- Galatzan Recreation Center - 650 Wallenberg Dr
- Marty Robbins Recreation Center - 11620 Vista Del Sol Dr
- Valle Bajo Community Center - 7380 Alameda
- Nations Tobin Sports Center - 8831 Railroad
- Chalio Acosta Sports Center - 4321 Delta
Use those yourself and/or direct friends, family and neighbors to them if their homes aren't staying cool enough. Check on sick or elderly loved ones too, the summer heat can be a mo - fo and people at higher risk due to age or illness can be overcome quickly.

- The "beer room" at Circle K. Again, always nice and chilly but, again ... sooner or later ... they'll kick you out too. Note to Circle K: Ever thought about charging people by the hour to just chill in there and have a few beers? Say, $10 or $15 bucks an hour for all you can drink? Just a thought ... thinking outside the (ice) box if you will.
- Buy a lifeguard outfit, then go to one of the local waterparks and just hang out under a shower or bucket dump. Warning, if you see someone drowning, you will probably be expected to rescue them. Be sure you get a little training - at least watch a YouTube video or something.
I'd let you rent my pool but, apparently, that's frowned upon here. Shame, for an extra $50 I'd grill you hot dogs and, for a large bag of treats, you could pet the dog. Got any other ideas? Put 'em in the comments ...
