Texan Bugs 101: What’s Creeping Around Your Home and Yard?
You can go to any city of town in Texas & the amount of insects you'll find is insane. From the ones buzzing around your head, or the ones down by your feet, bugs are EVERYWHERE. But which ones are the most common you can find in Texas?
Obviously one is the butterfly; there are over 400 different species of butterflies in Texas, and we even named the Monarch Butterfly as the official state insect in 1995.
So as you can see, not every bug is harmful to humans; a lot of them tend to live peacefully in their own natural habitat. But there are some common pests, whose sole purpose is to annoy us (or harm us) every single time they can.

Of course those are not the ONLY insects or pests you can find in Texas; some other common insects you can find all over the state include:
- Chiggers,
- Silverfish,
- Termites,
- Louses,
- Many types of beetles (lady bugs, Junebugs, tiger beetles,
- Caterpillars,
- Centipedes/Millipedes,
- Dragonflies,
- Fleas,
- Even spiders are sometimes considered as bugs/insects (even though they're arachnids).
That's just scratching the surface too. There are other websites that show even MORE results of all the types of bugs/insects you can find in Texas. Texas A&M listed a giant classification of various insects you can find as well as the website, Insect Identification, who listed over 1,500 different bugs.
Next time you're outside, just remember not every bug wants to hurt you. But also remember: don't mess with nature. Sometimes they WILL bite back.
