Alamogordo, about 70 miles north of El Paso, is home to lots of cool stuff. Including the aforementioned "nutty" record holder.

Alamogordo has been getting lots of attention lately thanks to Oppenheimer, a movie about the man behind the "Manhattan Project" which developed the atomic bomb.

Much of the work on it, and the first detonation of one, was carried out at the Trinity Site, located on White Sands Missile Range, just outside Alamogordo.

Alamogordo is also home to White Sands National Park and the International Space Hall Of Fame, both of which attract visitors from all over the globe.

Animal lovers can visit the oldest zoo in the Southwest while in Alamo. The Alameda Park Zoo first opened in 1898.

It's also home to a bunch of nut farms including Pistachioland, site of the world's largest pistachio. Well, pistachio monument anyway ... not an actual nut.

After a lifetime building his New Mexico pistachio farm, also known as PistachioLand, Alamogordo nut salesman Tom McGinn was memorialized with a roadside advertisement; the giant pistachio monument stands 30-feet tall and was constructed using over five yards of concrete and 35 gallons of paint; it sets the world record for being the World’s Largest Pistachio Monument, according to the World Record Academy.

Pistachioland takes "deez nuts" seriously and they make all kinds of delicious snacks and goodies from them for you to enjoy while you take pics of "diz nut".

There's a winery there too that offers free tastings. Not sure if they make pistachio wine or not but it wouldn't surprise me.
