As 2022 comes to an end, I think it's only fitting that we look back on some of the best artists from the year. More specifically, the artists that represented Texas. And boy we've seen some truly bands that a had a GREAT 2022. Bands like.

Nothing More: The San Antonio band had not one, but TWO song emerge on the Billboard rock charts in 2022;

  • Tired of Winning peaked at #5
  • You Don't Know What Love Means peaked at #14

Also appearing on the big screen on The Retaliators soundtrack along side Motley Crue & Papa Roach is no small feat either...

Koe Wetzel: A growing artist from East Texas, Pittsburgh's Koe Wetzel gained a HUGE boost of popularity in both the country & rock world with his crossover album, "Hell Paso" (yes it WAS recorded in El Paso). He has a North American tour in 2023 so we'll see how much more popularity he gathers next year.

Circa Arcana: Speaking of El Paso, one of the heaviest bands to represent 915 this year was Circa Arcana. They've gone on tour with Matriarchs/Living Dead Girl & even opened up at the Earthday Birthday Festival in Florida, where they opened up for acts like Jelly Roll & Godsmack. They certainly aren't the only El Paso artist that had a great 2022, you can see more here.

Spoon: The Austin band has been a staple for Austin's music scene for years. This year they put out their 10th album, Lucifer On The Sofa. How good was the album? So good they received their first nomination for best album of the year at the 2023 Grammys. I'd say that's a very huge accomplishment..

Giovannie & The Hired Guns: For a long while, Giovannie & the Hired Guuns were just a small indie band from Stephenville Texas. That was until August; when they got signed onto the Warner Music record label. One year after being included on Loudwire's Rock & Metal Songs You Shouldn't Have Missed of 2021.

Polyphia: And speaking of Loudwire, Plano's Polyphia was recognized by Loudwire, and the fans, by having the song of the year for 2022; beating out artists like Falling In Reverse, Muse & Ghost. I'd say that's a pretty big statement for an instrumental band that ROCKS.

Honorable Mention - Gary Clark Jr: We know Gary is an AMAZING blues guitarist from Austin; I wanted to give a quick mention to him for his cameo in the movie Elvis. Not many Texas musicians appeared on the big screen but Gary did, much to all of our delight

Let's hope 2023 becomes a year that Texas bands can truly reign supreme! Or at the very least, become more of a force in the music world.
