Is Tipping Becoming A Burden For Midland-Odessa Residents
If you've recently gone out just about anywhere in Midland-Odessa, or anywhere else in the United States, you may have noticed a growing trend: literally everyone wants a tip. There are places in Midland-Odessa where this is particularly severe, as there are individuals in this region who earn a substantial income each year. Needless to say, there are people in the area who have money, and those who want a tip for a service rendered are well aware of it.

What started out as a reward for exceptional table service has morphed into a full-blown tipping epidemic. Frankly, people are sick of it. In an era where inflation has already stretched many West Texans' wallets thin, tipping fatigue is setting in.
Unnecessary Tipping
Unnecessary tipping has exploded in the United States. In 2025, you can find people asking for tips for simply doing their job. For example, I was taken aback a few weeks ago when I visited a drive-thru of a local restaurant, and while I was paying, the machine asked me for gratuity. IN THE DRIVE-THRU!!! This is a prime example of unnecessary tipping. Several years ago, practically no one was asking for a tip in the drive-thru.
United States Visitors
People in other parts of the world do not tip. In fact, many of them see tipping culture as strange or odd. In other countries, businesses and companies pay their employees a proper wage, which is why tipping isn't a thing in other parts of the world.
Doing Away With Tipping Culture
Unfortunately, tipping culture is so ingrained in American culture that it would be exceedingly difficult to do away with it. This would require companies and businesses to give significant increases in what they pay their employees. Something that many are not willing or are unable to do.
