The Copperas Cove Police Department has made a bold statement to Kia and Hyundai owners after thefts of Kia and Hyundai models have become a substantial issue. There has been a trend of thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles that were manufactured between 2011 and 2022 that utilize a mechanical key which covers many models.
🚨 Recent Thefts & Attempts Reported
CCPD reported two vehicles stolen in the area of Creek Street and Deorsam Drive with each being a separate Kia model. There were multiple attempted vehicle thefts in various places around the city, and there are various vehicles with flaws that the thieves have found a way to exploit.
🔒 CCPD has some recommendations for vehicle owners to protect their vehicles:
- Use your garage or park in a well-lit area when possible and keep outside lights on overnight.
- Lock your doors and keep anything visible and valuable out of sight.
- Use a steering wheel lock or other visible exclusion device whenever possible to deter criminals.
- Check with dealers for free software updates or anti-theft devices from manufacturers who may be experiencing the same issues.

The CCPD is increasing patrols and distributing steering wheel locks to the community to help residents protect their vehicles. Judging by the fact that the CCPD is to increasing police patrols and provide steering wheel locks to the public it is clear that the CCPD means to diminish this uptick of vehicle crime in Copperas Cove.
