TikTok Roasts Amarillo, But Here’s What They Got Wrong
If you live and/or grew up here, then you know Amarillo. All the good and bad wrapped up in one flat package. To know Amarillo is to either love or hate this city. For those who choose to live and raise their family here, it's a love, while others dream of the day when they can pack up their car and leave.
Recently, a TikTok video went off on Amarillo and roasted the city. The video starts with,
Amarillo, Texas, where dreams go to die in cow manure.
What TikTok Got Wrong About Amarillo
1. This Place is Basically a Truck Stop with a Zip Code
Nope! The city truly has a lot to offer with our art, our people, and our tourist stops. I mean, if you want to call us a giant truck stop, go for it, but we have a Buc-ee's and they don't allow trucks. However, one of our many amazing businesses does allow our hard-working truckers.

2. Half the Town Smells Like Cow Manure
We can’t help it. We’re downwind from the Beef Capital of the World. Have you been to Hereford? Now there's the smell of money! They just like to share that scent with us on occasion.
3. The Other Half Smells Like Desperation From People Trying to Finish the 72-ounce Steak.
Again, nope, it's mostly the tourists that eat the 72-ounce steak.
4. Locals Call it the Yellow Rose of Texas
We do? Last check, we call it Amarillo, but it's been known as Bomb City and the Yellow City. But the Yellow Rose of Texas, we'll let Emily D. West keep that title; she earned it. I'm pretty sure Wikipedia made that up because Amarillo means "yellow". Heck, I could be wrong on that one.
5. The Only Thing Yellow is the Dust Storms
It's known as one of the windiest cities in the county, but the dust storms belong to Lubbock.
6. The Biggest Attraction is Watching Tumbleweeds Move Faster Than the City's Economy.
Eh, the tumbleweeds do blow fast, but Amarillo has had some great companies move in.
7. Palo Duro Canyon is Just a Big Hole
As the video says, it's the Grand Canyon of Texas, and it only reminds people that no one vacations here. Well, people purposely vacation here to go to Palo Duro Canyon. If you're getting technical, Palo Duro Canyon is in Canyon.

8. Amarillo isn't a City, It's the Largest Bathroom Break on I-40
That's pretty much just a rehash of the truck stop comment. But I would say we are the longest, most expensive bathroom break, because again, Buc-ee's.
I’m sure the video was made in jest, with info pulled from AI. Some might chuckle, while others will say, ‘That’s not how it is. ' Either way, check out the video for yourself.
