Move over all Labrador Retrievers, there is a new "King" or "Queen" of dog breeds in Texas, and the results may indicate a shift in the type of dog Texans are seeking overall.
A new study by PetLab sought out to determine the most popular dog breeds in each state. Using Google analytics, they were able to find the most searched for breeds in each state, including Texas.

Instead, the French Bulldog was named the most popular dog breed in Texas as well as 8 other states according to CBS Austin. It's been a pretty steady climb in popularity for the French Bulldog as Hoodline reported that registrations for French Bulldogs has increased tenfold since 2012.
It's not just a Texas phenomenon; these pint-sized pooches are winning hearts nationwide. Climbing the ranks over the past decade, the French Bulldog has dethroned the Labrador Retriever, ending its 31-year run as the most popular dog in the America. According to new data released by the AKC, this marks a significant shift in preference among dog lovers, symbolizing perhaps a larger trend in American living — city dwellers favoring smaller breeds compatible with apartment living. The Reuters report highlighted that their registrations with the AKC have increased tenfold since 2012.
With more and more people living in apartments in bigger cities, the small French Bulldog has grown in popularity and will probably continue to grow.
