Could Texas Really Support A Third NFL Team?
Everyone knows that Texas loves football. It doesn't matter if it's high school, college, the Cowboys, or the Texans; the Lone Star State takes the sport seriously. It's a way of life for most of us.
Could Texas support a third NFL team? It's a massive state that people have been flocking to for several years. Surely, there's enough room for one more franchise.

Why San Antonio Tops the List
A study was recently done by FlashPicks to determine which cities would be the most likely to be next to get a pro team. At the top of their list is San Antonio, Texas.
It's an entertaining thought. Texas already has one of the most beloved teams in the entire league. They're even referred to as America's Team. To put it simply, the Dallas Cowboys are iconic.

Houston is home to the Texans. They have a strong, dedicated fanbase, and the city itself is no stranger to the league. The Oilers first played in Houston from 1960 until the late 90s.
Shared Regions: Austin & San Antonio Scenario
But is there room for a third? Recent articles have hinted at the possibility of a team shared by Austin and San Antonio. It would be a shared-metro or "mega region" situation that some believe would be enough to support an NFL team in the future.

One of the major roadblocks at the moment is current ownership. There is a prevailing belief that current ownership groups would never go for a third NFL team taking up residence in Texas. There's a theory out there that it would be more likely once Jerry Jones retires.
Relocation: Most Likely Path
One way that a third team could find its way to Texas is relocation. Even though it's still very unlikely, this is the possibility that makes the most sense.
The FlashPicks study ranked San Antonio as the most likely place to get a team, and part of that has to do with how well the city did with the Saints in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. San Antonio has already proven they could handle the job of housing a team.
If it were to ever happen, it probably won't be any time soon. It's still a fun thought, though. We already have three NBA teams. Why not add a third on the gridiron?
