Is Lubbock At Tendies Saturation, Or Is There Even More To Come?

I feel like I need to disclose that tendies are never my first choice for a meal. I'm not sure why, I like tendies. Probably because, given the option, I'm going to pick a burrito or a burger instead. However, I am clearly in the minority with this in my hometown, because we have somehow managed to support an army of tendies-based restaurants, from chains like our 4 locations of Raising Cane's to the elevated and admittedly very delicious local options like Dirk's, Kokio, or Bucket of Love (all of which have plenty of options beyond tendies, but very good tendies, too).

Is There More Chicken To Come?

I was perusing Lubbock In The Loop (like I am prone to do) and saw in the Rumor Mill section a place called Urban Bird Hot Chicken as a possible new addition. We just got a Layne's and more are planned. Urban Bird looks more akin to Dave's Hot Chicken so I suppose you can argue it a little different. I have also heard whisperings about Pluckers, Zaxby's, Bojangles, and PDQ Chicken.

It Is Going To Come Down To A Few Things

I think pretty much any concept, from the creative to the well-tread, can thrive in Lubbock if it somehow manages to be consistent in quality and value. Having extended hours, a drive-thru, or a great location are also "wins" here in Lubbock.

I am sure we will see at least a few more chicken chains try their luck here in Lubbock. However, it will absolutely be survival of the fittest. Perhaps Lubbock will become the best chicken destination for many miles. Now, it probably has the most options per capita. Like chicken in the batter, it'll all shake out eventually.
