What Is LBK Scanner Squad?

If you are unfamiliar, it is a page run by volunteers who listen to public first responder calls and then post broadly/ anonymously about what they heard in real time. It's incredibly useful for avoiding areas where a crash has just happened, or where there may be a heavy police presence. I'm not going to lie and tell you it's not often amusing, too. My favorite post so far was "man in thong covered in paint." I hope that man had a great time. This quirky one happened during the weekend (someone call Walker, Texas Ranger immediately!):

5000 block CR 1150 - 3 individuals on horses approached RP* and made a comment about how easy it would be to steal their horse.

*responding party. You'll learn the lingo really quickly.

LBK Scanner Squad Is Looking for New Volunteers

Do you have a chunk of free time available? Maybe you are a night owl, or always have the afternoon off. If you routinely have a little free time and want to help out (while getting the real-time local chisme yourself), LBK Scanner Squad is looking for volunteers to help the page stay constantly current. Emergencies and crime are 24/7, so you may be the star of late nights or midafternoons, etc.

How to Volunteer With LBK Scanner Squad

Ready to commit or at least find out more? First, follow LBK Scanner Squad if you haven't already, and read a bunch of the updates. That'll give you a good idea of what they are all about. Second, you can inbox the page to let them know you are serious about helping and what times you are available. They may have coverage during that time, but they almost certainly need subs and backups for every time slot.

A Huge Thank You To LBK Scanner Squad

Because of LBK Scanner Squad, I've been able to report on wrecks/ heavy police presence blocking traffic on the radio (and also avoid it myself). We really appreciate the folks who take the time to do this; it's very valuable public information that could save folks a lot of time and keep areas safer during an emergency.
