What Happened: Hooters Surprising Location Closures In Texas

The restaurant chain Hooters is permanently closing underperforming locations nationwide, and yes, there are closures in Texas.

Interestingly, some of the Hooters locations in Texas closing are in areas with significant universities, such as Bryan, near Texas A&M in College Station, and Lubbock, home to Texas Tech University.

The company began in 1983 and is famous for chicken wings, burgers, and, well, you know. The Hooters Girls are renowned for serving food and beer with a smile in skin-tight uniforms with the famous logo on the chest.

For many young men, visiting Hooters for the wings was a right of passage—seriously, LOL!  Although the wings were good, they were not the main attraction at Hooters but were good with a couple of cold beers.

According to the company, "Like many restaurants under pressure from current market conditions, Hooters has made the difficult decision to close a select number of underperforming stores."

Hooters has been losing money due to market conditions. But college towns? That is surprising—so much for the Toxic Masculinity theory. Fraternities and college guys aren't spending enough money to keep Hooters in business in college towns.

The last few years have been hard on restaurants nationwide. Look at how many chains have downsized or closed permanently. One of the biggest chains, Red Lobster, shuttered many restaurants just a few months ago. Unsurprisingly, the effects of the economy are bearing down on these companies.

But watching the end of an era is sad. Many memories were made at these locations, celebrating, watching sports, and hoping the Hooters Girls would smile at you.
