October is knocking on the door, but Summer 2023 is not letting it in.

The temperatures in East Texas are about 10 degrees above average for this time of year, and that's where they are expected to stay through the first few days of the new month.

Relief on the Way?

As of this posting (9/29), numerous weather models are showing that a rather significant cold front is expected to push through East Texas by Thursday of next week.

You won't need to break out the heavy jackets, but with forecasted high temperatures in the 70s and lows near 60, a hoodie and some sweats might be in order. Some models are showing highs in the 70s and 80s for almost a week.

Of course, this is Texas, so the chances of a few more 90-degree days in mid-October are pretty good. But, at least a few days of autumn-like weather is better than none at all.

What About Rain?

Next week's cold front is also expected to bring some much-needed rain to the Pineywoods. It's still too far out to pinpoint how much rain, but some models are hinting that at least a couple of inches of rain could fall in some areas.

Parts of Deep East Texas have experienced some downpours over the past few weeks, but burn bans continue for many counties including Polk, Houston, Trinity, Tyler, Jasper, Newton, San Augustine, Sabine, and Shelby.

Much of the Pineywoods, especially south of Lufkin and Nacogdoches, continue to be categorized under Extreme Drought conditions.
