I’ve loved the Dallas Cowboys for as long as I can remember here in Texas. And yes, I’ve always thought our cheerleaders were the best in the NFL. Am I biased? Absolutely. Have you seen them?

That’s why the news that Dee Brock, the founding director of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, has died at 96 hits hard. Brock helped shape a squad that became every bit as recognizable as the star on the helmet.

More Than a Game Day Tradition

Being a Cowboys fan takes commitment. Some Sundays I’m celebrating; others I’m yelling at the TV like the coaches can hear me from Abilene. But through all those seasons, the cheerleaders have brought talent, energy, and unmistakable Texas pride to the sidelines.

Brock was there at the beginning. She directed the early squad and helped set in motion the changes that made the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders famous far beyond football. That legacy belongs to her and to the generations of women who’ve worn the uniform since.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Through the Years

My buddy Billy Jenkins in Tyler put together the photo gallery below, looking back at Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders of the past. Scroll through and tell me it doesn’t bring back a few Cowboys memories. I can almost hear the crowd, and myself, asking the TV why we ran it on third and long.

Rest in peace, Dee. From one lifelong Cowboys fan, thank you for helping create something Texas will always be proud of.
