Eastside El Paso is getting a brand new music school that is opening its doors to students with passion and the will to learn. From the young students starting their journey early to the 70 year old student who has been thinking about playing music their whole life. The instructors at The Happy Note are eager to teach anyone who is ready to start. The Happy Note Music School Grand Opening is Saturday, August 8th and I want to introduce you to your future instructors.

I was recently told about The Happy Note by a friend of mine who's son with autism was receiving drum lessons from Mr. Wes, the Happy Note Drum Teacher! She was really grateful for the connection that Mr. Wes had built with her son, especially considering that when her son started at Happy Note, he wasn't speaking much. Wes said that as their lessons continued, he saw his student begin to use more words, even if it was just to tell him the song he wanted to play.

Wes, Chris, and Dafnne all have this same attitude. After speaking with all 3 of them, it was clear to see that although each of them reached teaching in a different way, they were all equally motivated to help people learn.

Dafnne is the vocal and piano instructor at Happy Note. Although her parents were artists themselves, she was pushed to pursue another field entirely but she couldn't fight what was in her blood! Even though her parents wanted a different path, Dafnne was compelled to focus her efforts on teaching and it all led her back to Happy Note. Dafnne is a full time teacher but gives the rest of her time outside of her school to back to the students at Happy Note.

Chris is the music schools Guitar Instructor. While Chris primarily has guitars on hand, he mentioned that he can teach most any stringed instrument students bring in which includes things like Bass guitar or even Ukuleles! Similar to Dafnne, Chris didn't initially see himself as a music teacher but has found that it's been a motivating experience to watch his students gain confidence as they grow with their instruments. He has been a musician for many years but only began teaching music a few years ago and has come to enjoy the connection he continues to make with his students. Chris revealed that he is hoping to add recording studios to the music school as Happy Note continues. He wants to give his students the opportunity to hear themselves the way professionals do.

Wes shared similar feelings when we spoke about his work as the drum instructor for Happy Note. All 3 instructors actually worked for SoundStage 9 where they were motivated to start a new school on their own. Wes has been making music his whole life and really values the way it affects his students. From a nonverbal student finding his words, to his young students finding confidence outside of lessons just from learning something new. He says that he notices even when a student might not continue music outside of lessons, learning often makes them realize a confidence they may not have seen in themselves before.

Though each instructor found their way to teaching on entirely different paths, they have all made their way to Happy Note. Each one with experience in most every form of music a student might be motivated to try out. Wes even mentioned that sometimes its the students who want to learn something he has never tried that keeps him on his toes and practicing new things. Happy Note is a cozy space now but Dafnne, Chris, and Wes all seem motivated to help their space grow and even expand to be able to provide more specific programs. Dafnne even mentioned wanting to launch a program specifically for students on the spectrum who want to learn more about performing music.

Getting to read about the team is great but you actually have an opportunity to meet everyone in person on Saturday, August 8th! There will even be a performance by local music group The Painted Velvets! If you or someone in your life has been wanting to learn music, don't wait to try something new. The instructors at Happy Note are waiting to help make your music playing dreams a reality.
