El Paso: Do You Agree With Variety’s Top Pop Culture Halloween Costumes?
According to Variety, this year’s number one Halloween costume will be Leonardo DiCaprio’s Bob Ferguson from One Battle After Another. Which, sure, makes sense if your Halloween vibe is “existential dread meets midlife crisis.” Bob is a frustrated stoner dad just trying to keep his teenage daughter from hating him while also avoiding his past as a revolutionary. Basically, if your dream costume involves chain-puffing your vape while having constant panic attacks, Bob’s your guy.
But if you ask me, the real champion of 2025’s costume game will be Benicio Del Toro’s Sensei. Because while DiCaprio’s Bob is unraveling, Sensei is out here meditating through the madness. He’s calm, collected, and effortlessly cool, a community leader and martial arts instructor who makes split-second decisions without guilt, all while looking like he just wandered out of a slow-motion dream sequence. He’s the chillest man alive, and the internet agrees.
The defining Sensei moment? When police stop him for drinking and ask, “Have you had anything to drink today?” He smiles, mid-dance while walking the sobriety line, and replies, “A few small beers.” That line alone has become a meme, a mantra, and a lifestyle. If Bob Ferguson is chaos, Sensei is peace. And if you show up this Halloween as Sensei with your Gi on, zen energy, and maybe a can of “small beer,” you’ve already made it.

Here’s Variety’s list and my totally correct commentary on why some of these picks absolutely slay and others are just trying too hard.
1. Leonardo DiCaprio (Bob Ferguson) from One Battle After Another
Variety’s top pick. Perfect for anyone who wants to dress like a dad going through it. Bonus points if you spend the night asking people what time it is.
2. Labubu
The creepy-cute collectible plush everyone’s obsessed with. Ideal if your vibe is “haunted Build-A-Bear.”

3. Oasis
Matching tracksuits, bad attitudes, and sunglasses indoors. Grab your sibling and start arguing about who gets to be Liam. Bonus points if you break up halfway through the party.
4. Brad Pitt (Sonny Hayes) from F1
For those who want to look effortlessly cool while pretending they understand racing. Just remember, making car noises doesn’t count as commitment.
5. Gladys from Weapons
Perfect balance of “fashionable” and “should I be concerned?” Great choice if you like when people keep their distance at the snack table.
6. Taylor Swift in her Life of a Showgirl Era
Rhinestones, feathers, heartbreak, and glitter-induced chaos. Half the room will cheer you on, the other half will start a dissertation about unethical billionaires.
7. Huntr/x from KPop Demon Hunters
For the anime and K-pop fans who have been waiting for this exact crossover since 2010. You will absolutely win the group photo. Chances are high that you'll be seeing a lot more KPop Demon Hunters characters at the Halloween function.
8. Frankenstein’s Monster (Guillermo del Toro Edition)
The classic monster costume, but make it art. If you spend three hours doing makeup, congratulations, you’re a method actor now. Its the gloomiest, gothiest Frankenstein monster out there!
9. Michael B. Jordan as Stack or Smoke from Sinners
Two looks, both dangerously attractive. You can’t go wrong here unless your costume makes everyone else feel underdressed. Bonus Points if you go to the bathroom and change into the other cousin halfway through the night. More bonus points if you take the party hostage with a group of Irish vampires that love to sing.
10. Glinda and Elphaba from Wicked
Grab your best friend and argue over who gets to sparkle and who gets to scheme. Bonus: instant TikTok duet potential. Bonus Points if you sing the iconic run like 80 times during the Halloween party.
So yes, Variety thinks DiCaprio’s tortured dad energy will dominate Halloween 2025, but I’m calling it now, Benicio Del Toro’s Sensei will be the fan favorite. Because sometimes the best costume isn’t about pain or passion. Sometimes, it’s just about showing up, staying chill, and saying, “A few small beers.”
