Here's a sight you don't see every day - a guy on a horse casually strolling down to a McDonald's drive-thru in Horizon City.

There's a lot of weird stuff that goes down in the Sun City and on occasion, you might spot a man on a horse ordering drive-thru at a McDonald's.

While it may not be uncommon to see folks on horseback in the Horizon and Fabens area, it was odd to see one hit up a McDonald's drive-thru.

While working in Horizon City during a promotion, I saw a guy stroll along the sidewalk off Darrington. I immediately thought how odd it was for someone to ride a horse along a city street. Then turned to my co-worker and jokingly mentioned that if he were heading to the McDonald's, I would run over and take pictures.

Sure enough, the guy made his way and positioned himself in line, horse and all, and patiently waited his turn where he proceeded to get off the horse, place his order, pull out his wallet, and climb back on the horse to head to the drive-thru window.

No one in line batted an eye; otherwise, I was the only one amused by the scene, as they turned around and trotted back past me.

I took the opportunity to ask the guy if this was a standard mode of transportation for him, and he said that he usually rides his horse to many places and lives about 20 minutes away from the area.

With that, the very soft-spoken guy tipped his hat at me, smiled, and rode off on his horse back home.

Ironically, this moment flashed me back to an interview I did a few years ago with a British artist (who will remain nameless) who once asked me if folks in Texas rode their horses everywhere and if we knew how to extract water from cacti. My response was, of course not, but after witnessing this guy on his horse at the McDonald's drive-thru, I may have to reconsider my answer.
