There is a shakeup at two El Paso Independent School District high schools. Carla Gasway has been the principal of Franklin High School for 12 years, but the district wants her to transfer to Irvin High School.

In an email sent to her staff and faculty on Monday, she said her heart and soul is with Franklin High School and the Franklin community and rather than take what she called a lateral transfer, she was going to retire. Gasway went on to say in the email quote, "I can't see myself wearing another school's colors and supporting another school. Once a Cougar, always a Cougar!"

An online petition on Change.org has been started to gather signatures to keep Gasway at Franklin High School.

An EPISD spokesperson said the superintendent reserves the right to move principals around and it is not uncommon to do so during the summer months. EPISD says they know about the email, but they haven’t gotten a formal letter of retirement of Gasway as of yesterday.
