Former El Paso News Anchor Killed In Pedestrian Accident

Last night, I was watching the ten o'clock news on KVIA when they closed the newscast with breaking news about a person who had been hit while crossing an east side street.  This afternoon, I was shocked to find out who it was.

John Garmon was a longtime El Paso newsperson.  He worked for KTSM and KVIA in the 70's and 80's.  He was the reporter and anchor I watched when I was growing up.  By all accounts, he was a pleasure to work with, and will be terribly missed by his friends and former colleagues.

Mr. Garmon was crossing the intersection of Edgemere and Ivanhoe around 8 o'clock last night, when he was hit by a car being driven by a 40 year old man.  Mr. Garmon was taken to Del Sol Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.  The man stayed on the scene, and El Paso police say speed, but not alcohol, was a factor in the accident.  At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver.
