Fire Danger, Dust Storms, and Heat Expected in El Paso, TX
Welp, it’s going to feel like the Wizard of Oz all over again here in El Paso, Texas as yet another wind storm pushes through the area which means, trampolines will be flying and trash can bins will cover the streets.
According to the National Weather Service, those iconic West Texas winds decided to come in hot (literally) and chaotic. Gusts on Wednesday could hit up to 50 MPH (basically enough to launch your patio furniture into orbit) and if that wasn’t dramatic enough, blowing dust and sand are expected to make visibility so much worse, too.
Here’s more details from the National Weather Service:
- Wind Advisory: May 13 & 14, 12 PM – 8 PM MDT
- Blowing Dust Advisory: May 13, 1 PM – 8 PM MDT
- Red Flag Warning: May 13 & 14, 11 AM – 9 PM MDT
Translation? It’s windy, dusty, dry—and fire danger is critically high. Peak wind chaos is expected between noon and 8 PM, with gusts strong enough to push your car, knock down trees, or finally help you get rid of that trampoline.

On top of that, the heat will definitely be felt as El Paso’s highs are expected to hit 95° and Las Cruces is baking at 92°. So stay hydrated, find shade, and maybe don’t wear lip gloss unless you want a mouthful of sand.
And in case you get stuck in this wind and need to find a way to make someone crack a smile, or roll their eyes, here’s a few wind-related pickup lines to use at your own risk!
Wind-Related Pickup Lines to Blow Them Away:
- “Are you the wind? Because you just took my breath away.”
- “Even with all this dust, I still saw you clearly.”
- “You must be a gust at 50 MPH, because my heart’s racing.”
- “Is it windy out here, or did you just sweep me off my feet?”
