Elton John Cancels European Tour to Undergo Surgery for Appendicitis
Elton John was forced to cancel the entire leg of his European tour, all because his appendix refused to behave and now requires surgery to remove an abscess.
Appendixes: Can't live with 'em, can't figure out why evolution hasn't gotten rid of 'em yet.
"Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates," his rep told People. "To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans."
"He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013."
The official diagnosis is the lengthy and scary sounding "appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis," which doctors discovered during a series of tests performed after John complained of feeling ill.
His surgery will take place in the coming weeks. For now he's on a steady diet of antibiotics to reduce "toxins" in the "inflamed appendicitis site." (Uh, yum?)
We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.
