Weekly Concert Update 4/10-4/16

Every week, this post will be your once stop shop for music happenings in the Sun City. From up and coming indie bands to Latin American superstars, we will detail who they are and when and where they’re showing up in El Paso.

This week, old and new hip hop heads to the sun city, in addition to some great indie and a little heavy rock and metal thrown in. With at least one show almost every night, this week is a great one for El Paso’s music lovers.

Thursday

Snow Tha Product – Tricky Falls – Snow tha Product is the most recent of the latest wave of female rappers, who’s foremothers include Azaelia Banks and Angel Haze. The Mexican American from Ft. Worth via San Jose was just signed to Atlantic and is expected to release her debut this year, but for now you can check out her Good Nights & Bad Mornings mixtape.

Saturday

Mad Caddies, Mrs Skannotto, Second Class Citizens – Tricky Falls – Ska-punk favorites Mad Caddies are sure to throw quite the party at Tricky Falls. Their new album, Dirty Rice, is their first in seven years and is out next month. It features the infections barroom anthem “Brand New Scar.”

Mobb Deep – Lowbrow Palace – Duo Havoc and Prodigy have been tearing through the hip hop underground for more than 20 years. Unique in their rooting approach to hip hop and their critical and commercial acclaim, the group heads down to in celebration of the groups 20th anniversary, a truly must see show.

Trailer Band – The Fountains at Farah – If local country is the thing for you, then Trailer Band’s free performance at the Fountains of Farah your ticket. Check out the groups own brand of outlaw country beneath the sunset this weekend.

Sunday

Born of Osiris, Before I Die, Among the Brave, Within Patterns – Tricky Falls – The metal parade through El Paso continues this week with Born of Osiris, the Chicago deathcore group. Last year the group put out Tomorrow We Die Alive, which debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200.

Jean Jean, Triumph Over Shipwreck, Undying Hate, Ominous Distraction – Black Market – Jean Jean are French instrumental rockers who are currently trekking through the US hot off of a September album release (which you can find on their bandcamp).

Monday

Baths, Young Fathers  – Lowbrow Palace – Will Wiesenfeld, known by the moniker Baths, is an electronic music producer from Los Angeles; he has been compared to El Paso favorite Toro y Moi. Check out “Animals” for a feel of Baths’ work, and get lost in the weirdly awesome ebb and flow of his music.

Tuesday

Neko Case, The Dodos – Tricky Falls – The critically acclaimed singer songwriter has been working her magic as a solo artist and with The New Pornographers for more than 20 years. Her latest album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You was met with universal acclaim and nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammys.

Wednesday

Powerman 5000,  Nine Electric – Tricky Falls – Another rock veteran heads to the Sun City in Powerman 5000. Most known for their 1999 release Tonight the Stars Revolt! the group has been steadily churning out albums ever since.
