El Pasoans React To The Presidential Inauguration
El Pasoans took to social media to express themselves as they, along with the whole nation, watched the presidential inauguration on Thursday, January 20, 2021.
The inauguration events began early with president-elect Joe Biden and company attending mass, followed by an inauguration like no one’s ever seen.
Due to the U.S. Capitol's breach on January 6, the whole inauguration area was surrounded by barricades and barb wire along with 20,000 National Guard troops on the ground keeping guard over an abundance of caution.
The inauguration also included musical performances by Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Garth Brooks.
Lady Gaga sang the National Anthem and wore a black and red ball dress along with a huge bird of peace broch. Jennifer Lopez dressed all in white, sang a medley of This Land Is My Land And America The Beautiful, and belted out “Let’s Get Loud,” a nod to one of her songs On The 6 album. Garth Brooks also joined in with a stripped-down and stirring rendition of Amazing Grace.
There were also a couple of other notable moments that were breathtaking, including Andrea M Hall's pledge of allegiance and Andrea Gorman's poem.
Andrea M Hall is the first black woman to become a Fire Captain in the City of South Fulton Fire-Rescue Department Georgia, who recited the pledge while also signing it with her hands.
Then there was the breakthrough moment of the youngest Poet Laureate, 22-year-old Amanda Gorman, reciting her poem, The Hill We Climb.
But overall, the most memorable moments were when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris get sworn in, capturing all the feels for many across the nation, including El Paso, TX.
