Radio has always been about connection, unseen voices reaching across distances to make us feel less alone. In El Paso, that connection has deep roots, built by a generation of beloved personalities who helped define our city’s airwaves. While these legendary voices may have gone silent, their energy still seems to hum through the halls of Townsquare Media’s studios. All 3 stations have seen their share of prominent personalities come and go, so we are going to find out if any of their spirits have chosen to call these halls home.

This Halloween, we’re partnering with local paranormal investigator Heather Shade, founder of Lost El Paso Paranormal, local historian, and contributing author to the book Weird Texas, to find out whether some of El Paso’s most iconic radio hosts might still be hanging around the station, unseen but not entirely gone. Paranormal science suggests that it’s not always the place of a person’s passing that carries their presence, but rather the spaces where their emotional energy was strongest. And few places held as much energy, laughter, and late-night storytelling as these studios.

Here are a few of the unforgettable voices who helped make El Paso radio what it is today.

A talented host and community voice, Courtney Nelson brought joy to countless listeners before his untimely death in 2019. His presence on El Paso’s airwaves remains a cherished memory for those who tuned in daily.

While none of these legends passed within the building itself, their voices once filled every corner of these studios, and perhaps, some small piece of them still does.

This Halloween, Heather Shade will join us live on-air to investigate the Townsquare Media building for signs of paranormal activity. Whether it’s a whisper in the static, a flicker of energy on her equipment, or just the hum of memory, we’ll be honoring those who built the foundation of El Paso’s radio legacy.

After all, ghosts or not, their voices will always linger here.
