Cancer Survivors Shine Bright at El Paso’s Power of Pink Event
Alright, get that waterproof mascara ready because this feel good story will make you cry, but it’s tears of joy because El Paso Community College just proved that kindness and a fresh blowout go a long way.
The EPCC Cosmetology Department rolled out the pink carpet for their annual Power of Pink event, treating local cancer survivors to an unforgettable day of pampering, positivity, and pretty things.
The event brought together beauty, community, and some major healthcare muscle. EPCC teamed up with UMC, Providence, Del Sol Medical Center, William Beaumont, and the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation to remind survivors that they are thriving and fabulous.
Survivors were treated to full glam: hair, makeup, and nails courtesy of EPCC’s talented cosmetology and nail tech students. After the makeover magic, they posed for professional photos, snacked on sweet treats, and walked away with swag bags full of love.
“I feel very special and I appreciate everything going on today,” said cancer survivor Norma Walsh. “Glad I came—I’m really excited.”
This annual tradition started back in 2005 and is growing every year. EPCC Cosmetology Coordinator Cecilia Dominguez put it best:
“It is awesome to pamper them. The students really engage with the survivors.”
A photo showcase will happen on September 26th at Tenet Healthcare. The powerful portraits will be displayed at local hospitals throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.
