Backyard Pool Rentals in El Paso Could Land You Big Fines

The City of El Paso wants to remind all El Paso homeowners that renting out your pool or backyard for parties is a no-go.

El Paso Residents Can Get Fined For Renting out Their Backyard Pools:

City officials are launching a campaign to educate residents about zoning laws that prohibit renting out private residential spaces for paid events. Why? Because it’s not just about the noise, it’s also about safety, traffic, and neighborhood peace.

“When temps rise, so do complaints,” said Code Enforcement Director Steve Alvarado to KTSM. “We’re not party-poopers—we just want folks to know the rules and keep our neighborhoods chill.”

According to the City, violating these zoning laws could cost you up to $2,000 in fines. So yeah, that backyard bash could get expensive real quick!

But don’t worry, you’re still allowed to host birthday BBQs or tío’s retirement carne asada. The rule only applies if you’re charging people to use your home or pool like it’s a weekend Airbnb event space.

To get the word out, the City is going all in: mailers, social media blasts, website info, and even Code Enforcement knocking on doors with friendly reminders.

And Don’t Forget About Noise Ordinances:

El Paso officials also want residents to make sure they are being a courteous neighbor by reminding locals that outdoor noises should stay below 70 decibels from 10 PM to 7 AM.

What the heck does 70 decibels sound like? 70 decibels is considered the new “Safe Sound Level” and it’s the equivalent to the noise level of a washing machine, or a car driving at 60 mph, according to the Maryland General Assembly. It's also the maximum level of noise that the Environmental Protection Agency recommends for 24-hour exposure to prevent hearing loss.

According to city officials, violators could face fines up to $1,000 if they get a noise complaint. And if locals hear something excessively loud, they are asked to report it via 3-1-1.
