Happy Fall, Ya’ll! Fall may officially be here in El Paso, but Mother Nature is bringing plenty of rain to not only the sun city, but New Mexico too!

The National Weather Service has a Flood Watch in effect for El Paso County through Wednesday evening, with showers and thunderstorms expected to continue across the region. Forecasters say some storms could produce heavy rainfall, increasing the potential for flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

And the rain isn't necessarily a one-day situation. El Paso is expected to see additional chances for showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday, with the possibility of more rainfall before conditions become quieter heading into the weekend. *Gasps in Spanish*

Free Sandbags Are Available To El Paso Residents

With more rain on the way, El Paso Water is reminding residents who live in areas prone to flooding that free sandbags are available to help protect homes and property.

El Paso Water provides sandbags to residential customers for flood-control purposes. Residents can receive up to 10 sandbags per visit.

To get yours, you'll need to show either:

  • A valid Texas ID
  • An El Paso Water bill

Each sandbag weighs approximately 40 to 50 pounds, so El Paso Water recommends bringing someone who can help with loading and unloading if you're unable to lift heavy items.

A Few Flood Safety Reminders

Sandbags can help protect your property, but they aren't a substitute for staying safe during flooding.

El Paso Water recommends avoiding flooded streets and never driving around barricades. If water is covering a roadway, find another route.
