Rita Moreno is no stranger to our city, and thanks in part to the award-winning actress, the Plaza Theatre stands today. Back in 1986, The El Paso Community Foundation invited Moreno to headline a fundraising concert which raised $1 million to purchase the Plaza Theater and preserve it after it was dormant for years.

Thanks to Rita Moreno and the Community Foundations efforts, The Plaza Theatre built in 1930 was designated as a National Historic Building of Significance and restored to its original atmospheric theater splendor in 2006.

In 2007, Rita Moreno was invited back to perform at the newly restored theatre and also headlined the Plaza Classic Film Festival in 2013.

Now the EGOT winner returns to the Sun City for this year’s Plaza Classic Film Festival screening of West Side Story and her new documentary, Rita Moreno: Just A Girl Who Decided To Go For It.
