When I first arrived back home to El Paso, I had the honor of being introduced to what immediately became my favorite place in the city. Aaron & George’s Film Cafe was made to honor The Felini Film Cafe which closed down years before I arrived here. For the time it was open, A&G was an absolute gem for film lovers. The owners allowed movie goers to hold community screenings of different films, with a simple online form you could host the next movie night however you wanted.

Some people played music before the movie, others gave essays, some held classes or did lectures to pair with the film of their choice. But one night, I ran into a crew called Tower Productions, a local independent film studio and they were hosting a live movie podcast. The crew screened a movie for the A&G Film Cafe audience, then afterwards they would set up all the cameras and microphones and shoot a podcast with everyone watching.

The best part was that they even set up a microphone on the side and allowed the audience members to give their own thoughts on the movie too.

For a movie geek like me, new to my hometown and stumbling around to find community…this felt like an extinct animal suddenly stumbling upon a hidden pod of creatures just like me.

I went to every single live podcast after that until they weren't able to host them anymore, and just from being a fan I was lucky enough to get to know the crew at Tower Productions even more. The entire team is filled with passionate filmmakers who have consistently proven they are here to make movies, whether as part of this dynamic team or on their own. Sincerely, when the team aren't flying under the Tower Productions banner, most of them are working on individual projects sometimes while working on their own.

Tower Productions is one of the hardest working independent film studios here in the city and to celebrate a decade of doing the damn work, they are inviting the community to come and celebrate with them. A night at the Plaza Theater celebrating El Paso filmmakers and the work they've done both on and off the screen.

If you have been trying to find a way to connect more with El Paso’s local film scene, this is an excellent way to dive in. Especially since this whole event is in partnership with The El Paso Film Festival, a globally recognized independent film festival happening right here in the borderland, and of course CreativElPaso which works with and supports the film community here in El Paso! The Tower Productions team is playing it close to the chest with some of the surprises you can expect at the event but you can look forward to plenty of screenings, a live podcast, and a documentary! Mingle with the team, meet some other local filmmakers, and celebrate 10 years of Tower Productions and their contributions to El Paso filmmaking.
