Sunland Park Mall is losing another merchant as Cinemark’s Movie Bistro theatre closes its doors permanently.

The six-screen Cinemark Movie Bistro theatre closed because its current lease was ready to expire and the company was already looking into plans of constructing a new Movie Bistro theatre in far East El Paso.

However, with the ongoing pandemic along with local and state amended and extended directives – movie theatres such as Cinemark have had to push back reopening theatres across El Paso.

According to a recent press release dated June 30th, Cinemark expects to open in late July, “…beginning Friday, July 24, with additional theatres reopening in subsequent weeks. All theatres will reopen with elevated cleaning and safety standards, and moviegoers should visit www.cinemark.com for the most updated information”.

Over the years Cinemark’s Movie Bistro at Sunland Park Mall has offered a wide menu of food, beer, cocktails, and wine delivered to attendees’ theater seats featuring a slide-out tray. The theatre and the mall also regularly teamed up to offer free movies and cartoon mornings for families throughout the summer and holidays.

Once the pandemic begins to recede, Cinemark will be breaking ground on a 12-screen Movie Bistro near Eastlake Marketplace in far East El Paso where the theater will serve as an anchor for a new shopping center that is currently being built.
