Ceiling Collapses At Texas University
A ceiling collapsed at UT Austin and the university just released the footage. Luckily no one was hurt but man can you imagine being the person walking by and all of a sudden the ceiling of an entire building just comes falling down next to you??
I am certain someone walking by got the scare of a lifetime. The worst part is that the building that fell apart, The Norman Hackerman Building, is only 15 years old!! Most people who know will tell you, that should not have happened.
So why did it???
"The ceiling that collapsed was a decorative element and was not tied into the building’s core structure, so there are no concerns about the soundness of the building," Mike Rosen said in a statement. "The University will be working with outside assistance to assess the cause of the failure and develop a mitigation plan."
It was reported that the building was back up and running pretty soon after and no research was damaged either so thats a plus. I'm sure the machines and equipment in a university science building could set a normal person back as much as the cost of a used car!
I mean, if my ceiling collapsed, I would definitely be freaking out but I dont have university money or insurance. Another huge plus from the whole disaster? The ceiling fell outside over some seating that nobody was using at the time, so it was probably a relatively easy thing to take care of.
Just goes to show, ya gotta keep your eyes open no matter where you are! Even a fancy university in Texas.
