While Madonna remains coy about whether M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj will join her on stage during her Super Bowl halftime performance, a new report suggests that she has enlisted one of pop music’s most colorful characters, ‘Forget You’ singer Cee Lo Green.

The Insider says that Cee Lo has spent the past two weeks in New York rehearsing with Madonna and working out a “new sound” for some of her biggest hits. Rumored songs on the set list for the big game include ‘Ray of Light,’ ‘Vogue’ and ‘Music.’ And we know that pom poms will be involved.

If there’s one performer who can compete with Madonna in terms of making a live performance a spectacle, it’s Cee Lo, who played the Grammys last year in a feathery peacock-style costume and regularly wore outrageous garb when he took the stage with Gnarls Barkley. Putting these two together sounds like an inspired idea.

Madonna has acknowledged the pressure of taking on such a high-profile gig, telling Nightline, “It’s quite a daunting task because I have, you know, in the middle of this very important event in Americans’ lives, I have to put on the greatest show on Earth.” With Cee Lo on board, we bet the performance will be a lot less stressful and a lot more fun.

Super Bowl XLVI kicks off on Sunday, Feb. 5 in Indianapolis and will be streamed live online. Madonna will be given 12 minutes to do her thing at halftime.
