It’s that time of year where El Pasoans will end Thanksgiving dinner’s early for the sake of a good deal. Yup: Black Friday!

Look, I’m guilty of ending dinner early to do some Black Friday shopping, but it’s usually only because the rest of the family wants to go shopping so we have now turned it into a family tradition.

However, I have to say that I never really do Black Friday shopping “the right way” because I’ll  just go to whatever store is near me and I walk around looking at items that will probably still be on sale even AFTER Black Friday. I’m a rookie. But now with the internet around, Black Friday shopping just got a whole lot easier!

The days of battling it out at 5 AM in-store are over:

According to a report by WaletHub, In 2022 130.2 million Americans shopped from the comfort of their couches, outpacing the 122.7 million who braved in-store chaos. So, what can we expect in 2023?

Retailers are kicking off sales as early as October, giving shoppers more time to plan and space out their spending. So, who’s offering the biggest bang for your buck?

According to WalletHub’s survey of 3,500+ deals, JCPenney is taking the crown with a whopping 59.1% average discount. If you’re looking for jewelry deals, this is the jackpot—you can score items for as much as 65% off! Macy’s is close behind, offering 58.2% off on average with major markdowns on fashion and jewelry.

Here’s the quick lowdown:

  1. JCPenney – Best for jewelry and appliance deals.
  2. Macy’s– Huge savings on jewelry and clothing.
  3. Kohl’s – Solid discounts across a range of items.
  4. Target & Walmart – Reliable for tech and household essentials.

I went ahead and asked El Pasoans where their go-to place for Black Friday shopping was and some responses surprised me! Here’s a rundown on the best places to snag deals this year, according to El Pasoans:
