I love pizza. Frozen, gourmet, homemade, chain; put it in front of me and I’ll eat it anytime, anyplace. As far as I’m concerned pizza is a lot like sex -- to paraphrase an old saying -- when it’s good, it’s really good and when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good. So where does this self-professed pizza connoisseur like to get his pie on? Here are my five favorite pizza places:

    House of Pizza

    2016 N. Piedras

Sure, they only take cash, and parking is hard to find most of the time, but, as much of a pain in the you-know-what as those things are it's totally worth the extra effort.

    Ardovino's Desert Crossing

1 Ardovino Dr Sunland Park, NM

Wood fire oven baked and crispy thin! My personal favorite is the Full House pizza; Canadian bacon, Italian sausage, cremini mushrooms, Mesilla Valley green chile, provolone cheese and a just a touch of roasted garlic. Mmm, mmm. [Website]

    Casa Pizza

    1311 Magruder St

Fresh ingredients with lots of cheese, sauce and toppings. They've been in business for more than 25 years in the same little corner on Magruder Street so they must be doing something right.

    The Pizza Joint

    2900 N Mesa St, 500 N Stanton & 1506 Lee Trevino

I love the slightly sweet crust. I love how they’re a bit on the greasy side. I love that you can order by the slice. And I looove how huuuuge they are. Any pizza slice that’s bigger and more wide than my face gets my vote! [Website]

    Grimaldi's

    Fountains at Farah shopping center

This newcomer to the EP restaurant scene is as good as advertised. I love the smokey taste of their hand-tossed, coal-fired brick oven pizza. The “secret recipe” pizza sauce, and homemade mozzarella cheese and dough seal the deal.
