This week, The University of Texas at El Paso will award more than $3 million in scholarships to 277 unsuspecting high school students  to attend UTEP starting this fall.

Beginning today through March 28th, representatives from UTEP’s Office of Scholarships will visit 44 El Paso area high schools to surprise students with the good news in front of proud parents, counselors and administrators.

As part of the UTEP Scholars Excellence Program, the scholarships are four-year commitments that range from $6,000 to $24,000, totaling $3.1 million.

In December, the University awarded $2.9 million in scholarships to 206 local high school students. In total, UTEP has awarded $6 million in scholarships to 483 seniors from the Class of 2014.

Recipients are selected based on their scholastic aptitude test scores, grade point average, student ranking and leadership skills.

The next deadline to apply for the scholarships is Nov. 1, 2014 for the upcoming Class of 2015. To apply, go to www.utep.edu/scholarships.
