A fight on the field between two soccer players from Andress and Jefferson high schools last week turned into a huge brawl that sent one player to the hospital with serious injuries, and now there has been an arrest in the case.

18-year-old Cesar Ramirez was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury. Ramirez is a senior at Andress. His bond has been set at $20,000.

It was during the fight on Tuesday, February 3rd that Jefferson player Edgar Perez's jaw was broken after a scuffle with a player cleared the benches. Perez had to undergo surgery for his injuries.

Andress and Jefferson are scheduled to play again on March 6th, but six players from each team will not be allowed to play. El Paso Independent School District officials say they feel "comfortable that the rules we have used are effective. We will continue to use these practices and make case-by-case changes as necessary."
