The Chico’s Debate: One of the ‘Best Mexican Restaurants In America’ – Yes or No? [POLL]

Chicos Tacos. You either love them or hate them. There’s really no in between. It is a debate that has raged in our city for decades, and now thanks to an article on the internet newspaper The Huffington Post, that debate has gone national. Is the iconic El Paso restaurant one of the best Mexican restaurants in America?
Gustavo Arellano — author of the syndicated column ¡Ask a Mexican!, and the new book “Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America” — seems to think so. He thinks it’s the 7th best, in fact, calling them ”legendary taquitos…unknown to any other Mexican restaurant outside this legendary chain”, referring to Chico’s.
Another El Paso favorite, comedian Gabriel Iglesias, sang its praises in one of his Comedy Central stand up specials. “I never thought I’d see the day,” he says jokingly, ”when I could drink a taco.” Even celebrity chef Aaron Sanchez, of Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”, has gone so far as to declare the soupy concoction ” the most wonderful thing you’ll ever have.”
But not everyone is a fan. Myrna Minjares hit up the Mike and Tricia Facebook wall to declare Chico’s Tacos “not mexican food at all.” Adriana Leal agreed with Myrna’s sentiments on the Kiss Facebook wall, adding “that’s like saying Taco Bell is Mexican [food].”
So where do you fall on the Chico’s debate? One of the 7 best Mexican restaurants in America, yes or no? You can comment below, or here and here and vote in our poll:
