More Than 4,000 Luminarias to Light up Scenic Drive This Saturday
On any night of the year, Scenic Drive provides El Pasoans and tourists alike with the most majestic and panoramic view of the El Paso/Juarez landscape there is. I’m talking glowing lights as far as the eye can see.
But one day a year, that picture-perfect view becomes an even more luminous wonderland.
On the last Saturday before Christmas Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe and more than a hundred volunteers light up the mountaintop road with over 4,000 luminarias, producing a glorious glow all along Scenic Drive.
This year, that day is this Saturday, December 17. That’s when La Fe will hold its 25th annual Navidad de La Fe Luminarias. The spectacular sight is more than just one of our city’s most beloved Christmas traditions. This unique and totally El Paso event also serves as a fundrasier and canned food drive for families-in-need.
So if you plan on making the trek up the mountain, please donate as many canned and/or dry goods as you can, or hit ’em up with a few dollars. Everything La Fe collects Saturday night will be used to make sure those they serve have a happy Christmas.
What to Know Before You Go:
Scenic Drive will be open only to one-way traffic during the event, accessible from Richmond and Alabama in Central El Paso.
You will slowly wind your way up the mountain with lights off to view the luminarias and the city lights of El Paso and Juárez. Once you reach the top, you’ll be greeted by festive Christmas music, a live nativity scene, and Santa Claus.
