Monsoon season has hit southern New Mexico, for the last four days it seems it has been raining cats and dogs.

The Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department has your sandbags and they are ready for anything. Sixteen Volunteer Fire Districts have stocked up and have begun to distribute sandbags to Las Cruces residents in need.

Supplies at each station are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sandbags are limited to eight per residence or business.

Sandbags should be placed in doorways where there is a threat of water coming inside, and will not be issued to protect landscaping or to build barricades. The county recommends individuals who want additional sandbags to purchase both bags and sand from area hardware and home-improvement stores.
