When a three day weekend comes along most El Paso families will be planning to relax with family or friends, but if you’re like me and you want to spend the extra days off out of El Paso then let’s talk mini-road trips!

For me, road trips are how me and my now teenage son continue to bond! Back when my son was a cute little toddler we would take mom and son trips alone and it was the best bonding experience EVER!

With Labor Day right around the corner, I decided to ask the people of El Paso for the best suggestions on where to head out for a mini-road trip and they did not disappoint with their suggestions.

These are the top weekend getaways according to El Paso residents.

We asked El Paso residents what their favorite weekend getaways are on Facebook and a lot of suggestions included places in Texas and New Mexico.

Mini-road trips from El Paso to New Mexico, included places like Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, Albuquerque and Carlsbad.

One commenter said, "Ruidoso!! It’s a short drive, with good food, and beautiful views." Another added that they like the casino in Ruidoso and added that it's a "short drive, with beautiful views, with the smell of pine trees, a variety of food, hiking trails, boats, etc."

El Paso residents also suggested Cloudcroft and some commenters said they enjoy Silver Lake and the "fresh air and beautiful scenery."

Carlsbad Caverns was one of the most recommended mini-road trips from El Paso.

Most of the El Paso residents commented that Carlsbad Caverns is one of the best mini-road trips to take from El Paso, especially for the whole family. The commenters also stated that they enjoy boat rides, swimming in the lake and public pools in Carlsbad.
