The Popular Snack Texans Will Wait Forever For at Fiesta
As someone who has never been to San Antonio, the concept of Fiesta is a bit foreign to me. What is not foreign to me, however, are festival foods. Which is why upon some research, I learned that there is one very popular snack at Fiesta that many a Texan will definitely say is worth the wait.
Because I live in El Paso, we don't have a Fiesta and the FOMO is real! Fiesta San Antonio is basically one giant, colorful, confetti-filled party that takes over the entire city every spring- and honestly, as someone from the Sun City, I get a little jealous every time I see the footage. While we're over here enjoying tacos and sunsets in peace, the Alamo City is out there throwing parades, dancing in the streets, and celebrating like it’s a week-long block party (because it kind of is).
I especially get a little jealous when I see that every year, there is one snack item that many are willing to stand in line forever for: chicken on a stick!
This is apparently a favorite among the partygoers, and I think it's pretty self-explanatory- it's fried chicken on a stick! But what really seems to be the pièce de résistance is that jalapeño on top!
It seems so perfect! It’s messy, it’s spicy, it's convenient for dancing and snacking, it’s totally indulgent- and it’s the one thing people will stand in long lines for, year after year. In short, it’s Fiesta on a stick.
You could say chicken on a stick is the unofficial king of Fiesta foods and if you're lucky enough to get it, all is right in the world!
Rewatching season one during fiesta and I just couldn’t resist…..

So if you're scrolling through Fiesta footage from El Paso, drooling over chicken on a stick while everyone else is living their best jalapeño-topped life, you’re not alone. Fiesta FOMO is real, and honestly? Justified. But hey, there’s always next year… and now you know exactly what to track down the moment you arrive. Just follow the lines (and the smell of fried perfection).
