Taste Of Success: El Paso Chefs Making Waves In The Food Industry
El Paso, Texas is known for its flavorful food but it wouldn't be this unique if it wasn't for the people to make these dishes come to life. We've seen some our local chefs make huge names for themselves in books & tv and some have even won awards too. Here are some of the biggest names to represent El Paso in the world of culinary arts.
Enrique Lozano
If you've watched the Food Network, there's a great chance you've seen Chef Enrique Lozano from El Charlaton on the show in 2024. Enrique appeared on "Beat Bobby Flay" in May & "Chopped" in June. Enrique was also a James Beard nominee in 2023.
Emiliano Marentes
Another El Paso chef that fought to "beat Bobby Flay" was chef/owner of Elemi, Emiliano Marentes. Emiliano is a semi-finalist for Outstanding Chef for the James Beard Award in 2022, a finalist for Best Chef Texas in 2023 & a semifinalist for Best Chef Texas in 2024.
Rico Torres
While Rico Torres lives in San Antonio now, Rico was & always will be an El Paso native. Together Rico & his partner Diego Galicia opened Mixtli & became the "2017 Food and Wine Best New Chefs". Rico has also appeared the Hulu series "Taste the Nation" & founded the El Paso foundation "Family Meal".
And last but not least we have Aaron Sanchez
Without a doubt the most famous chef from El Paso is Chef Aaron Sanchez; he was born in Chihuahua, Mexico but was raised in El Paso, Texas. Aaron was won countless awards & has appeared in several tv shows like Taco Trip, Heat Seekers & MasterChef.
You also might remember Aaron sharing his love for Chico's Tacos on The Best Thing I Ever Ate, something we most definitely share here in the Borderland.
Thank you to all these talented chefs for making sure people know how good El Paso food is!
