When we say "major" cities, we're including cities with populations of over 500,000 and cities from other states that are widely known. We've also included some of the biggest cities in Texas. So nevertheless, here are a dozen cities you CAN reach if you leave El Paso early enough...

What's interesting is the number of NON-Texas cities that are closer to El Paso than cities in Texas -- even cities the states like Colorado, Nevada, California...even Kansas...are closer when compared to Houston, which is THE biggest city in Texas in terms of population numbers.

We didn't even include cities like Tulsa, Oklahoma which is also about 12 hours away, or Roswell, New Mexico which is only 3 and a half hours away.

some other notable Texas cities:

  • Amarillo is about a 6-and-a-half-hour drive.
  • Lubbock will take about 5 and & a half hours to 6 hours,
  • Midland can take you somewhere between 4 & a half to 5 hours to get to; fun fact it's also home to the nearest H-E-B from us.

Of course, Texas also has some of the longest roads in America; you can read about the one that cuts through El Paso here and the "Road to Nowhere" road here.
