El Paso Street Among The Deadliest For Pedestrians In Texas

Remember when you were told to look both ways when crossing the street as a kid? There's a reason for that. If you're not careful, you could get struck by a car & get killed. And that's a huge problem in Texas; some of the worst streets are pedestrians are found in San Antonio, Houston & El Paso.

Which Texas streets are the deadliest for pedestrian crossings?

According to a study done by Value Penguin, they ranked the worst streets for pedestrian crossing in the state of Texas between 2016 & 2020. In the top 10, at least 5 belong in San Antonio (including the #1 spot; San Pedro Avenue with 15), 4 are in Houston & 1 belongs to El Paso's own Dyer street. Dyer is tied for the #7 spot along with Houston's Telephone Road with 7 deaths.

Sadly that data was from a few years ago & we've seen more fatalities since then...

The accidents on Dyer haven't slowed down & evidences by the events we've seen in 2022

And this year of 2023.

That's not even considering the section of Dyer that's near the Angel's Triangle in El Paso; aka the Devil's Triangle (the section between Hondo Pass & US-54). Although it's possible there might be a NEW Devil's Triangle in town.

Where does Texas rank overall in the United States

Pretty high; according to NHTSA (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), Texas ranks at lucky #13 overall in terms of fatality rate with 2.34 in 2020. That's 687 total fatalities statewide.

Since 2020, the number of pedestrian fatalities have increased.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, in 2021 the number of pedestrian fatalities have increased to 824, which is at least a 15% increase from the previous year.

Moral of the story: keep your eyes open & look both ways. Don't be a statistic.
