New Arizona Law Limits How Many Cars People Can Park At Home

A city in Arizona just put a law into place limiting the number of certain types of cars residents can have parked in their driveways or on their property.

This is no Podunk town out in the sticks either; Gilbert, Arizona is a city of just under 300,000. Located about 30 minutes from the state capital, Phoenix, it's one of the fastest growing cities in the USA.

The number of parked cars there though is shrinking in some cases.

A new law in Gilbert limits the number of "inoperable" vehicles peeps can have out in front of their property. The law doesn't apply to vehicles parked behind homes or kept out of view. Cars and trucks that are being worked on are also exempt as long as they don't sit more than 15 days.

While those that fall into the repair category do have that out, it's a limited one. Shade tree mechanics can only play that repair card 3 times in 1 year. Furthermore, the vehicles have to be out of sight during the repair process.

Beyond the obvious, some of the reasons abandoned or undriveable vehicles should be kept out of site include:

• Not only is an abandoned car an eyesore, it's also a hazard to the surrounding community as pests and rodents can take refuge in the interior, engine bay, or trunk.
• Leaking fluids can be dangerous for the environment, as many vehicle fluids are toxic and can wreak havoc on ecosystems if they enter waterways.
