Popular Macaroni and Cheese Brand Recalled: ‘May Cause Medically Reversible Adverse Health Consequences’
UPDATE (Sept. 13): According to an email from Reser's, the company's macaroni and cheese recall initiated on July 29 is "complete."
"The distributor that received the product was immediately notified to destroy all compromised product. While the FDA has the recall classified as ongoing we have provided all information requested by the FDA and consider this recall completed," a spokesperson said via email.
"The incident was isolated, limited to only one truckload of products to one distributor location in Hopkins, MN. While these types of products may be available at some retailers with the same UPCs and possibly same code dates, only the products on this truck were recalled and impacted," the statement continues, adding: "The foods were all produced safely, this was a concern with a malfunction of a refrigeration system of one truck."
"These five recalled products were produced on the week of July 29, 2024, with 'best if used by' dates ranging from Sept. 3 to Sept.18, 2024. Swift effort was made to fully recover all products and remove them from the marketplace," the statement concludes.
According to Reser's, the FDA apparently issued a Class II risk for a "Reser’s-initiated, voluntary recall of four products on Aug. 2, 2024, after the company discovered the potential of foreign material associated with an ingredient used."
ORIGINAL STORY (Sept. 6): Some products from a popular macaroni and cheese brand were recalled over the summer.
Newsweek reports Reser's Fine Foods voluntarily recalled two varieties of its cheesy pasta dish.
The two kinds of macaroni and cheese that were recalled include Reser's American Classics Macaroni & Cheese White Cheddar (12 oz) and Reser's American Classics.
The recalled products feature codes 71117.02009 and 71117.02123, which are located on their bar codes. The recalled macaroni and cheese products were distributed in the following states: California, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
The macaroni and cheese products were part of a recall that was issued out of fear the products may have been spoiled due to temperature misuse as a result of a malfunctioning refrigeration unit on a trailer.

According to Newsweek, the recalls were classified as a Class II risk. This kind of risk is classified by the FDA as "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."
This summer's popular macaroni and cheese brand recall is the latest in a long line of food recalls this year.
In August, Boar's Head had to recall deli meat over listeria concerns. In that case, 57 people were hospitalized in 18 states, while nine people died.
