Walmart is changing course when it comes to health.

Earlier this week, Walmart announced that they would begin closing all Walmart Health Centers that they had opened in Texas and around the nation. Walmart launched the health centers in 2019 and had previously announced a plan to open more locations this year.

Walmart Health Centers offered a range of low-cost medical services, including dental, medical, and behavioral health care according to USA Today.

“Through our experience managing Walmart Health centers and Walmart Health Virtual Care, we determined there is not a sustainable business model for us to continue,” the retailer said. “This is a difficult decision, and like others, the challenging reimbursement environment and escalating operating costs create a lack of profitability that make the care business unsustainable for us at this time.”

Due to rising operational costs and challenges to getting reimbursed, Walmart has decided to close all 7 Walmart Health locations in Texas and 51 locations across the United States. No date has been announced for the closings, just that the locations will be closing this year.
