For years we've heard about the economic strength of the State of Texas. According to the Texas Comptroller's office, if Texas were a country, it would be the eighth largest economy in the world. Ahead of Canada and Russia.
And if Texas was a country, Texas would be one of the highest medal winning nations at the Olympic Games in Paris.
According to a report from Axios this week, the United States as of this writing leads all nations in the medal count with 103 medals. That includes 30 Gold, 38 Silver, and 35 bronze. For the United States, that number will rise going into the final weekend of the Olympic games.
Texas' Olympic Medal Count Leads Most Nations at the Olympics in Paris
Axios and KXAN report that athletes who are from Texas or who train in Texas have been dominating the Olympic Games. Both outlets report that athletes from Texas have won at least 30 medals as of this writing.
That means that if Texas was a country, they would be in the number 7 spot along with Italy for total medals. That would put Texas ahead of South Korea, Netherlands, Germany, and Canada, along with many other nations.
Not all athletes from or who train in Texas are representing the United States. Julien Alfred who trains at the University of Texas for example, represented her home country of Saint Lucia in the women's 100m where she won gold.
