These Giant, Black and Yellow Spiders Are Showing Up In Texas This Summer
Texas is home to plenty of insects and bugs and during the warm Summer months it seems like they all come out to play. That includes of course spiders. Spiders are all over place. Hiding in our homes, outside our homes, and spinning their webs wherever they can. Most of the spiders we come across are small, but sometimes we see spiders that can be considered large, if not huge.
And now Texas is seeing a spider that many people haven't heard of. And when some people come across it for the first time, they get freaked out. The spider that many in Texas are now coming across? The Banana Spider. Also known as the Golden Silk Spider.
What is the Banana Spider and Is It Dangerous?
Texas' hot summer has attracted the large spider, which actually comes in various sizes, but is often seen in it's web as a large orb weaving spider.
According to the StarTelegram, the Golden Silk Spider, is the only type of banana spider found in Texas. Due to its size, people who often come across the spider believe its dangerous. But there is some good news. Banana Spiders found in Texas are not dangerous for humans.
“There is little danger to a healthy adult from an encounter with the banana spider. It will only bite if held or pinched and the bite itself will produce a localized pain with a slight redness, which quickly goes away.”
So if you come across one. Don't mess with it and it won't mess with you.
