Texas Veteran Senselessly Killed in Vicious Carjacking
A Quiet Saturday Afternoon Turns Tragic
A peaceful afternoon at the Lone Star Living assisted living complex in southwest Houston was shattered by violence on Saturday. Just after noon, a 90-year-old resident was brutally shot and killed during what appears to be a senseless carjacking.
The tragic incident occurred off Westbrae Parkway, near the intersection of South Gessner Road and West Bellfort Avenue.
A Neighbor’s Terrifying Account
Rod Boson, a neighbor who lives next door to the complex, was in his backyard when the fatal confrontation occurred. Boson recalls hearing a single gunshot followed by the sound of a car speeding away.
He believes the victim, a military veteran, was either coming from or going to a shopping trip with his cart when the argument erupted. "He had his little shopping cart and a scuffle ensued. They say he put up a good fight. That's when he got shot," Boson recounted, his voice heavy with emotion.
Mourning the Loss of a Kind Man
The suspect, who was driving a white sedan, struck the elderly man with the car before fleeing the scene. The police later found the victim's vehicle abandoned at an apartment complex on Dunlap Street, just three miles from where the shooting happened.
Residents and maintenance crews at the complex were left reeling from the incident, mourning the loss of a man described as "kind" and "always smiling." Boson added, "It’s a shame they look at them as easy ues, the community and the city of Houston grieve the loss of a beloved neighbor.
